Guided Hive Tour & Honey Bottling
There's something pretty special about tasting honey you harvested yourself. This hands-on session takes you right into the world of Ferguson Highlands’ bees — no experience needed, just curiosity
You'll gear up in full protective beekeeping equipment and open a working hive alongside an experienced beekeeper, learning what's actually happening inside a colony — the queen, the workers, the honeycomb, all of it. Then it's into the honey house to extract and spin a frame, before bottling your very own jar of raw, golden honey to take home.
A few things to note
Weather-dependent
Bees are sensitive to conditions, and hive inspections are safest (and most pleasant) on calm, mild days. Sessions may need to be rescheduled in the event of extreme heat, strong wind, rain, or storms, both for guest comfort and to avoid disturbing the colony unnecessarily. We'll be in touch ahead of time if conditions look unfavourable, and will work with you to find another suitable time during your stay.
Allergies
For everyone's safety, please let us know at the time of booking if you or anyone in your party has a known allergy to bee or wasp stings, or any other relevant medical condition. This helps us determine whether the experience is suitable for you and allows us to plan accordingly. If you're unsure of your allergy status, we recommend checking with your doctor before booking. Undisclosed allergies discovered on the day may result in the session being modified or, in rare cases, declined for guest safety.
Stay protected
We supply full beekeeping suits, including veils and gloves, in a range of sizes to suit all guests. These must be worn at all times during the hive inspection for your safety — no exceptions, even for guests who feel confident around bees. Please let us know in advance if you have any specific sizing requirements so we can have the right suit ready for your visit.
